Also known as the Colorado Blue Spruce, as it is the state tree of Colorado. It is one of the most popular evergreens that grows in columnar, pyramidal form. The blue spruce has astounding silver blue-green coloring and is very full and great for privacy and wind break. The needles are stiff and prickly at about 1”-1.5” in length. At maturity, it will reach heights of 50’-75’ and spread of 10’-20’. It grows in Hardiness Zones 2-7 at a rate of less than 12” to 24” per year. The Blue spruce acclimates well in many soil types. It handles high winds well because of its wide spreading and fairly deep root system.
