The Ponderosa Pine is a very large pine tree that is native to the mountain regions of western North America. It features firm green to yellowish-green needs that are 5”-7” in length, and starts with a pyramidal shape that finishes with an irregular cylindrical shape. At maturity, the Ponderosa reaches 60’-100’ and a spread of 25’-30’. It grows in Hardiness Zones 3-7 at a rate of 13”-24” per year. The Ponderosa Pine acclimates well in a variety of soil types at high and low elevations. It is also drought resistant once well established, but can be intolerant to overly wet or poorly drained sites. This tree cultivates a deep tap root that makes is able handle high winds.
